UPDATE: Leon Kilgore

Leon W. Kilgore, age 98, of Johnson, Kansas died Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born February 6, 1917 in Wilson County, Kansas, the son of Lawrence Edward and Rosa Emma (Barnes) Kilgore.

Leon married Grace Leila Lindsay on May 7, 1943 in Joplin, Missouri. He spent the majority of his life as a farmer in western Kansas. He enjoyed being around his family and visiting with friends. His stories were enjoyed by all as they often were mixed with orneriness. Church was a big part of his and Grace’s life and they attended Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church.

He is survived by his children, Lawrence Kilgore and wife Kim of New River, Arizona, Leila Hurlburt and husband Jerry of Johnson, Kansas, LaDonna Cheatham and husband Tony of McPherson, Kansas, Leonal Kilgore and wife Joanna of Wichita, Kansas; ten grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife Grace in 2014; and siblings, Loren, Lynn, Lyle, Lelia, Lois, and Lorena.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, Kansas with Pastor Kurt Rovenstine officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Friends may call on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions for missions may be given to the Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
