UPDATE: Harry E. Long

Harry E. Long, age 79, of Syracuse, Kansas went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, December 3, 2015 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born December 6, 1935 in Syracuse, Kansas, the son of Clarence H. (Bud) and Ruth (Snode) Long.

Harry grew up in Syracuse and graduated from Syracuse High School and earned his Bachelor of Theology Degree. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Air Force after serving his country for four years. He married Linette (Holland) on September 23, 1956 in Denver, Colorado at Eastside Baptist Church. Harry was a miner, harvester, church pastor, Christian school principal and teacher, surveyor, and State Highway Department worker and supervisor. He was the Hamilton County Republican Chairman for many years. Harry enjoyed oil painting, coin collecting, woodworking, fishing, nature, and caring for their animals.

He is survived by his wife, Linette of their home; son, David Long and wife Ruth of Pueblo West, Colorado; daughter, Cathy Nairn and husband Troy of Syracuse, Kansas; brother, Clarence M. Long and Clara of Indiana; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Howard and Ralph.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM MT on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the Syracuse Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Don Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery in Syracuse, Kansas, with military graveside rites conducted by the United State Air Force Honor Guard. Friends may call from 10:00 AM MT until service time on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the Syracuse Southern Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be given to Pitkin Avenue Baptist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
