Thelma Jean Bitner, age 79, of Johnson , Kansas died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson , Kansas . She was born September 15, 1932 in Manter , Kansas , the daughter of Cortland Sr. and Thelma (Roark) Wartman.
Thelma has been a Stanton County resident all her life. While growing up she helped work on the family farm and in the family grocery store, W&R Grocery. Thelma was also a beautician, cooked at the Stanton County Senior Center , and managed apartments. She enjoyed yard work and loved animals. Her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Thelma was a member of the Johnson VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Wartman and Michelle Reinert both of Johnson, Kansas; one brother, Cortland Wartman Jr. of Johnson, Kansas; three sisters, Luella Carrithers of Derby, Kansas, Carolyn Hartley of Garden City, Kansas, Cathy Farmer of Ulysses, Kansas; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, and son, Don L.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, October 01, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson , Kansas with Reverend Dave Kaufmann officiating. There will be no public calling hours. Memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer’s Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715 , Johnson , Kansas 67855 .
