Elder Terry L. Witherspoon was born December 29, 1954 at Desha county Hospital at 300 Pickens Street In Dumas, Arkansas to Richard Witherspoon Sr. And Bettie Mae Edwards-Witherspoon both of whom preceded him in death, he was the 11th child of 13 children born to this union 6 of whom preceded him in death. His father remarried after the passing of his mother in 1960, and he gained two more brothers. His Step Mother Mrs. Mary O. Witherspoon also preceded him in death. Terry departed this life on March 15, 2021 at his home in Raytown, MO.
Terry gave his life to Christ at the age of 12, he was baptized and united with the
Family’ s church home, Cyrene Missionary Baptist Church of Pickens, Arkansas Pastor MinorColeman. He spent part of his early childhood in Pickens, Arkansas and he attended the A.L.Reed Elementary School in Dumas, Arkansas. In 1967 his father moved the family to Liberal, Kansas and the family united with the New Testament Baptist Church of Liberal, Kansas Rev. Buck Pouncil Pastor.
Terry leaves to love and cherish his memories: his devoted wife Cora L. Hooker-Witherspoon, Raytown, MO, whom he married on May 18, 2019, his Daughter Tenisha Witherspoon, Raytown, MO, Rhonda Witherspoon of New York, NY, and Michelle Witherspoon-Edwards and husband (Terry) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, 3 Grand Sons, Lyrixx Witherspoon, Raytown, MO, Armon Love and Denim Edwards, Fort Lauderdale, FL. He also leaves to mourn 4 sisters and 4 brothers, Bernestine Britt, Kansas City, MO, Evangelist Delois (Maurice) Terry, Liberal, KS, Gloria(Rev. Steven) Bailem, Liberal, KS, MinisterMargaret Simmons, Mobile, AL, James Witherspoon Sr., Liberal, KS, Richard (Velma) Witherspoon Jr., Milwaukee, WI, Michael Witherspoon, Dallas, TX, Fredrick a.k.a Fred (Pastor Tammy Evans) Witherspoon, Arlington, TX. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, his gospel singing group (God’s Anointed Ones) his church family and many friends and students all who loved him dearly.
Services were held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 under the direction of Serenity Funeral Home in Kansas City.
