Teresa Hernandez, age 59, died December 19, 2020, at her home in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born July 13, 1961, in Levelland, Texas, the daughter of Jose and Geneva (Velardes) Hernandez.

Teresa worked within USD 214 school systems as an ESL Teacher for many years. She was better known as “La Maestra Teresa” and was very well respected by the Hispanic Community in Ulysses. In her free time, she offered help to other community members by guiding them through the citizenship process. She knew no stranger and was a friendly face to all. Teresa lived a full life, surrounded by her large family. She will be remembered for her wonderful laugh and beautiful smile.

Teresa is survived by her daughter, Pricilla Sanchez of Ulysses; sons, Cory Hernandez of Denison, Texas and Sergio Villanueva of Ulysses; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Teresa is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Benny Hernandez, Joey Hernandez, Jessie Hernandez and Dora Hernandez.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at 10:00 AM at the Oasis Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Pastor Garrett Gretz officiating, with cremation to follow. The service may also be viewed live on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook Page. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 22, 2020, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Teresa Hernandez Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, Kansas 67880.
