Sandy Rae McFarland, 55, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away August 16, 2019 at her home.

Sandy was born March 15, 1964 in Albia, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Barbara Chance Etcher. This is where she attended school and graduated from Albia High School with the Class of 1982. She continued her education at Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri.

She was united in marriage to Chris McFarland on October 1, 1983 in Bussey, Iowa. They made their first home in Lovilia, Iowa for three years before moving to Kansas City so that Chris could finish college.

In 1993 Sandy and Chris began work as missionaries in Brazil, staying there until 1996. They returned to the United States living in Lovilia for seven years. In 2003 they moved to Hooker, Oklahoma where she was involved in ministry, as her husband pastored the Gospel of Grace Church in Hooker.

In 2013 she received her Bachelor of Science in education from Calvary Bible College and in May of 2013 her Master of Science in Education from Northeastern State University in Tulsa. In 2010 she became a Para teacher in special education for the Hooker Public School and went on the teach the fifth and sixth grades until her illness forced her to leave in 2018.

She was a member of the Gospel of Grace Church where she assisted in VBS, Sunday School and Ladies Bible Class; she enjoyed gardening and quilting.

Survivors include her husband, Chris McFarland of the home; her parents Donald and Barbara Etcher of Lovilia, Iowa; three sons, Josh and Jill McFarland of Tupelo, Mississippi, Ben and Elizabeth McFarland of New London, Iowa, Jordan and Karinna McFarland of San Mateo, California; two daughters, Rachel and James Block of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Aimee McFarland of Warrenton, Missouri, three brothers, Scott and Julie Etcher of Lovilia, Iowa, Steve and Thea Etcher of Warrenton, Missouri, Shawn and Heather Etcher of Warrenton, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jasmine, Bentley, Paisley and Rowan.

Visitation will be on Tuesday August 20, 2019 from10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. at the Hooker Cemetery.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the Hooker High School Auditorium.
