Sandy Lee Schroll, age 58, of Syracuse, Kansas passed away Monday, April 9, 2012 at her home in Syracuse. She was born April 16, 1953 in Tribune, Kansas to Carl and Irene (Brown) DeVaney.
Sandy grew up in Syracuse and graduated from Syracuse High School in 1971. She married John Helton on July 3, 1971. She graduated from Goodland Area Vocational Technical School. Sandy was the Deputy County Treasurer for Hamilton County. She married Jake Schroll on May 6, 1995. He died on May 9, 2005. Sandy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Syracuse, the church financial secretary and a member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed any activity her family was involved in, scrapbooking, doing yard work, traveling, and spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Survivors include one son, Josh Helton and Ashley Kingham of Hays, Kansas; two daughters, Karla Helton and Mike Smith of Emporia, Kansas, Brooke and Merlin Kuder of Syracuse, Kansas; one brother, Dennis DeVaney and wife Risa of Holcomb, Kansas; Janet Weis and husband Marvin of Syracuse, Kansas; three grandchildren, Pierce Helton, Memphis and McCoy Kuder; and a granddaughter due in July.
Sandy is preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 10:00 AM MST at the First United Methodist Church in Syracuse, Kansas with Pastor John Wright officiating. Interment will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery in Syracuse, Kansas. Friends may call Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM MST at the First United Methodist Church in Syracuse.
