Sandra Kay Rollins Gillespie

Sandra Kay Rollins Gillespie, 68, died on Wednesday, May 31,2017 at Stevens County Hospital, Hugoton, Ks.

 

She was the daughter of Charles Rollins and Betty (Hemphill) Rollins, she was born on September 27, 1948 , at St. John Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, although her formative years were spent in Henryetta, Oklahoma where she lived until she graduated from Henryetta High School.

 

She and Dennis Gillespie were married on November 3, 1978 , combining their two families. The word stepchild was not in her vocabulary, they were all our kids.

 

She was a voracious reader both professionally and for pleasure. When she was in her twenties she was already having trouble finding books she had not read. Her other great passion was cooking, she could cook anything she wanted without a printed recipe or a measuring spoon.

 

She spent her life helping people. She worked as an RN for thirty one years, seventeen of those were at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital, Ulysses, Ks. She became disabled in 2004 and even then she volunteered as a first responder and dispatcher for Jackson Volunteer fire department, Marion County, Tx.

 

Survivers include, husband, Dennis Gillespie, Jefferson, Tx: a son, Chris Gillespie, Montezuma, Ks: Gina Downey  & husband Steve, Ford, Ks, Diane Mangles & husband Trevor, Hugoton, Ks; a brother, Steve Rollins, Oklahoma City, Ok: 12 grandchildren;  7 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Jonathan White.

 

A memorial has been established for Henryetta Public Library, Henryetta, Ok. Memorials may be mailed to Paul’s-Robson Funeral Home- PO Box 236-Hugoton, Ks 67951.

 

A memorial service will be at a later date.
