Samuel Jacob Hurtado

Samuel Jacob Hurtado, age 26, of Liberal, Kansas, died Sunday, February 27, 2022, in Beaver County, Oklahoma. He was born September 24, 1995, in Liberal, the son of Oscar Sr. and Diana (Rodriguez) Hurtado.

Samuel grew up in Hugoton and graduated from Teen Challenge. He had worked at Wal-Mart, Big R, McDonald’s, and HMH Roofing. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Samuel loved playing jokes on people and gave joy to everyone that met him. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, listening to worship music, and playing his XBox.

Samuel is survived by his parents, Oscar Sr. and Diana Hurtado of Liberal; siblings, Oscar Hurtado II and wife Lidia of Hugoton, Kayla Baeza and husband Jesus of Liberal, Jeremy Hurtado and wife Debi of Hugoton, Joshua Hurtado and wife Ricki of Hugoton, and Abby “Andy” Hurtado of Liberal; grandparents, Apolonio Jr. and Salome Rodriguez of Ulysses, and Maria Teresa Hurtado of Hugoton; nieces and nephews, Lia, Emily, Jesus II, Oscar III, Joel, Jacob, Elaya, Gali, Malakai, and Jahziel.

Samuel was preceded in death by his grandfather, Raul G. Hurtado, Sr.; and aunt, Cynthia R. Mendoza.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the First Christian Church in Hugoton, Kansas, with Pastor Ismael Ramos officiating. Interment will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton. Friends may call Friday, March 4, 2022, from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home, 920 E. 11th St. in Hugoton. Vigil service will be Friday, March 4, 2022, at 7:00 PM at the First Christian Church in Hugoton.
