Salome “Sally” Maria Suarez

Salome “Sally” Maria Suarez age, 87, died Saturday, February 17, 2024, at her home in Elkhart, KS. She was born September 5, 1936, in Mora, NM the daughter of Celestino and Rosaura (Argon) Garcia.

She married Manual H. Suarez on March 22, 1972, in Perryton, TX. Sally loved her family and enjoyed cooking for them. She was well known in the area for preparing wonderful food, especially enchiladas at the El Rancho in Elkhart. Sally also worked for several years as a CNA at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, KS. Sally enjoyed embroidering, loved to draw and read her Bible.

Survivors include six children: Don DeHerrera and wife, Jody, of Elkhart, KS, Arlene DeHerrera of Albuquerque, NM, Christine Lozano and husband, John, of Elkhart, KS, Alex DeHerrera of Elkhart, KS Mable “Bebe” DeHerrera of Elkhart, KS and Joseph DeHerrera of Muskogee, OK. One brother, Floyd Garcia, of Albuquerque, NM; one sister, Selena Garcia, of Mora, NM. 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Two step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Manuel; four sons, Norman, Juan, Larry and Ricky DeHerrera. Two brothers, Juan Rubel Garcia and Adriano Nolan, two sisters, Ruth Romero and Alveta Martinez; and one granddaughter, Lisa DeHerrera.

Graveside service will be Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Elkhart Cemetery with Jess Lee officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 20, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, KS.
