Ruth Burnside, age 90, died Thursday, March 26, 2020, at Morton County Senior Living Community in Elkhart, Kansas. She was born January 1, 1930, in Amarillo, Texas, the daughter of James Marshall and Bessie (Algare) Cameron.

Ruth spent her childhood in Amarillo. Her father was a Pentecostal preacher which inspired her love of gospel music. She married Lionel Custer in 1947 in Amarillo. After his death in 1953, she later married James Burnside. Ruth loved to travel and had gone on two Southern Gospel cruises and had attended Daniel O’Donnell concerts. She also enjoyed crafting and handiwork. She shared many of her quilts and crocheted pieces with family and friends. Ruth attended the Church of the Nazarene in Elkhart.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Marsha Barnes and husband Ernest of Elkhart, and son, Patrick Custer of Sydney, Australia; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lionel Custer in 1953, and James Burnside in 1994; and daughter, Marcella Custer.
