Roy Whiteley

Roy L. Whiteley, 86, died November 23, 2015 at Good Samaritan Center, Liberal, KS.

He was born March 27, 1929 at Summers, Arkansas, the son of Floyd and Laura (Hale) Whiteley.

He was a retired truck driver with Yellow Freight. He had driven truck since he was 14 years old, first driving for Graves Truck Line and later for Nash Finch and Rock Island Railroad. Roy was an entrepreneur but very frugal as he operated small businesses such as R & E Sales and EFD which was bought out by Beaver Express. He was a self-taught investor in the stock market. He was a member of the Elks Lodge BPOE #1947 and the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed gambling and taking his grandchildren on vacation.

On April 22, 1950, he married Evelyn “Adie” Leaming at Clayton, NM. She died on January 3, 2009.

Survivors include:

1 Daughter, Linda Johnson and husband Larry of Liberal, KS

4 Grandchildren, Stacy Johnson and wife Tracy; Angela Hernandez and husband Benny; Sabrina Stefan and husband William and Connie Whiteley all of Liberal, KS

8 Great Grandchildren, Petty Officer 3rd Class Makyla Johnson, Whitney Ramirez, Taylor Seigrist, Jordan Seigrist, Alaina Hernandez, Alexis Hernandez, Sean Stefan and Katharine Stefan.

4 Great-Great Grandchildren, Phoenix Ramirez, Santana Ramirez, Averie Seigrist and Indie Seigrist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 Brothers, Bob Whiteley and Ray Whiteley; 4 Sisters Florene Leach, Pauline Johnson, Erma Jean Nibblit, and Frankie Harper; Son, Alan Roy Whiteley, Grandson, Jeff Johnson and Great Grandson, Jonathon Hernandez.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015 at Trinity Faith Church with Pastor Terry Engler and Rod Whiteley presiding. Burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 1 -8 p.m. Monday at Brenneman Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 6 -7 p.m. Monday.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Jeffrey Johnson Memorial Scholarship in care of Brenneman Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
