Rosa Maria Portillo, 76, formerly of Liberal, transitioned into heaven on Friday February 9, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS with her beloved children by her side in her final moments.
She was born on February 23, 1947 to Faustino Soto and Tomasa Lozoya Soto at San Francisco de Conchos, Mexico.
On October 17, 1966 she married Santos Portillo in Mexico; he preceded her in death on October 30, 2014.
Rosa, was tenderly referred to as “Rosita” by many of her friends and a “sweet lady” by all others that met her. She diligently worked at National Beef Packing in Liberal for 43 years. Rosa loved to cook and always made sure everyone was well fed. She enjoyed all types of music and spoke often of how she loved to dance when she was younger. Rosa enjoyed life and loved to laugh! She was a long-time member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where she served faithfully for many years. Nothing gave her greater joy than spending time with her family and friends whom she loved unconditionally. Rosa had recently relocated to Wichita and enjoyed the community and activities at Catholic Charity Adult Day Services where she attended twice a week. She left a legacy of resilience and hard work that will continue to be lived out in her children, their children, and beyond. Rosa was married to her beloved Santos for 48 years with whom she is now joyously rejoicing with in Heaven!
Rosa will always be remembered by her smile and cute laugh; she was a strong, yet gentle woman who will be dearly missed by her family and all those that loved her.
Survivors include three Sons- Jose Portillo and wife Araceli, Liberal, KS; Benito Portillo and wife Cynthia, Wichita, KS; Cesar Portillo and wife Veronica, Albuquerque, NM; two Daughters- Rosa Perea, Wichita, KS; Teagan Loredo and husband Mario, Liberal, KS; one Brother- Salvador Soto, Albuquerque, NM; three Sisters-Olga Portillo, Chihuahua, MX; Maria Elena Molina, Chihuahua, MX; and Margarita Soto, Phoenix, AZ; 11 Grandchildren- Brett Portillo, Andrea Portillo, Andrew Portillo, Adan Portillo, Julia Portillo, Jazmin Portillo, Michael Perea, Raquel Houston, Gabriel Portillo, Christian Portillo, and Amerie Portillo; six Great Grandchildren – Roman Gabriel Parea, Summit Portillo, Tre Portillo, Harper Rife, Azeile Adame, and Amaurah Adame.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one Brother, Natividad Soto.
Viewing will be 1:00 pm – 5:30 pm Monday, February 12, 2024, at the Miller Mortuary Chapel.
Rosary and Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, February 12, 2024, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, with Fr. Charles Siewert, presiding.
Burial will take place in the Restlawn Cemetery.
