Roger E. Hurst, age 82, of Johnson, Kansas, died Sunday, December 4, 2016, at his home in Johnson, Kansas. He was born February 2, 1934, in Howard, Kansas, the son of Howard and Iva (Cory) Hurst.

Roger moved to Stanton County when he was 10 years old. He graduated from high school at the age of 16. He went to work at a welding shop and purchased his first car. Roger then began farming and ranching in Stanton County, and had bought an interest in the Valley State Bank. Roger enjoyed many things, but none more than his family. He made time for them for them and supported them always. He enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their events. Roger was a very generous person and was willing to help anyone in need. Roger married Delomia Goodman on December 10, 2002, in Garden City, Kansas. He loved to dance, which is where he met his wife, and they traveled to many places including Alaska and also two cruises. He also loved camping. Roger owned his own plane and was a member of the Flying Farmers of Stanton County. He was devoted to the First United Methodist Church and served in many capacities and on many boards. He also served on the Stanton County Hospital Board, Johnson Co-op Board and USD #492 School Board. Roger and Delomia recently moved to the Memorial Living Center in Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Delomia of their home; sons, Brent Hurst and wife Mary Ann of Colwich, Kansas, Gary Hurst and wife Deanna of Lyons, Kansas; daughters, Sheryl Deyoe and husband Dennis of Ulysses, Kansas, Deborah Walker and husband Lonnie of Manter, Kansas; step-daughters, Joanna Bowles of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Rebecca Hillard and husband Richard of Guymon, Oklahoma, and Jamie Terry and husband James of Holcomb, Kansas; eight grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and one due in March; numerous nieces, nephews; and friends galore.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Hurst; sister, Karla Kaye Hurst; grandsons, Joshua Pearce and Jarett Hurst; and step-sons, Gilbert Patrick Widows and Steve Raye Widows,

Funeral services will be Friday, December 9, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson, Kansas with Reverend Richard Fitzgerald presiding. Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Friends may call Thursday, December 8, 2006 from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson, Kansas with family present from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
