PLAINS – Roger Dale Morton, age 70, passed away Friday evening, October 7, 2022, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal, Kansas.
He was born January 14, 1952, at Lubbock, Texas, the son of George and Mavis (Eastman) Morton. As a young boy, he attended school in Smyer, Texas, graduating from Smyer High School in 1972. In 1975, he joined the United States Army, serving until 1977. After his discharge, he returned to Plains, KS and began his career in welding and in maintenance.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.
On November 1, 1974, he married Mellody Zirger at Liberal, Kansas. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Gerrad Morton and wife Amanda of Chesterfield, Virginia, Rodney Morton of Hatboro, Pennsylvania, and Roger (Shorty) Morton and wife Mandy of Valley Center, Kansas; a daughter, Melissa Robertson and husband Billy of Abilene, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Jessica, Alex, Roger, Bradlynn, Jacob, Chesney, Gracelynn, Emma, Billy, and Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Johnny Morton; and a sister, Joyce Hindsley.
Cremation has taken place and private family memorial services will be held at a later date. The family has entrusted Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kansas, with these arrangements.
