Robert E. “Bob” Mabery

Robert E. “Bob” Mabery, age 85, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the BSA Hospice of the Southwest, Amarillo, Texas.
He was born September 20, 1932, at Meade, Kansas, the son of Robert and Martha Mae (Granger) Mabery. As a young boy he attended the Meade School system.  After his education, he entered into the United States Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. Princeton during the Korean Conflict as a Boatsman Mate, which conducted the Liberty Launches.  Upon his discharge, he returned to Meade and began his career in maintenance.  He worked for the USD 226 and later for Meade County, responsible for the maintenance of the Meade County Court House and the Meade County Jail.  In addition to his maintenance responsibilities, he served as a bus driver for the school system, driving for thirty-three years.
He is a member of the American Legion, serving as a past Commander, the Kiwanis Club, serving as a past president and was instrumental in starting the KEY Club in Meade during his presidency, and was a former Meade City Councilman.  He enjoys fishing.
On December 31, 1956, he married Wanda Mae Jeffries at Meade, Kansas.  She precedes him in death on May 30, 1997.
He is survived by:

Two daughters,                        Pat Hissom of rural Meade, Kansas
                                                Donna Chappell of Plains, Kansas
Three grandchildren                        One great-grandchild                        One step-great-grandchild
He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; a brother, Buford Mabery; two sisters, Ella Mae LeClear and Lenor Cook; and two grandsons, Kellen Hissom  and Kyle Hissom.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2018, at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Meade.  Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Interment will take place at 8:45 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2018, at the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
He has requested memorials to the Beam Senior Center or Crown of Texas Hospice Foundation for BSA Hospice of the Southwest in care of the funeral home.
