Robert “Dean” Ryan

Robert “Dean” Ryan, 77, died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS.

He was born April 28, 1938 at Freeport, KS, the son of Paul D. and Dora M. (Scoville) Ryan. He was a 1956 graduate of Shallow Water High School, Shallow Water, KS. Dean joined the United States Air Force where he worked in communications in Italy and Germany.

Dean moved his family from Dodge City to Kismet in 1977. He was co-owner of H & R Insulation and then worked several years for SW Bell and Western Electric. In 1986, Dean was seriously injured in an accident while working as an electrician for Jayhawk Pipeline.

He devoted much of his time volunteering in the Kismet community. He drove people to appointments, helped at the Senior Center, and at times helped on the trash truck. He was a member of the Kismet United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school to grade school children, member of the Kismet Lions Club, promoter of the Little World’s Fair, and was also on the PEPL bowling league.

Survivors include:

3 Sons, Robert “Bob” Ryan of Lewisville, TX; Devin Ryan and wife Barb of Kismet, KS; and Sgt. Dallas Ryan and wife Traci of Liberal, KS

4 Sisters, Betty Dunlap of Caballo, NM; Peggy VanWey of Beloit, KS; Karen Ryan of Scott City, KS and Nancy Witt of Caballo, NM

6 Grandchildren, Ranae Coy and husband Brock; Cory Ryan; Sheree’ Ryan; Shawn Ryan; Tyler Ryan and Michael Ryan

1 Great Granddaughter, Elaney Ryan

Longtime Best Friend, Rosalie Kane of Kismet, KS

He was preceded in death by 2 Sisters, Dorin Penka and Mary Ryan and an infant Brother, Paul Edwin Ryan.

Funeral Service 11:00 am Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Kismet United Methodist Church with Pastor Larry Myers presiding. Burial will follow at Kismet Cemetery.

Visitation will be 1 – 8 pm Monday and 9 am – 8 pm Tuesday at Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

The family will be present to greet friends from 6 – 7 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
