Robert (Bob) Hugh McCulloch, age 86, passed away Monday evening, March 27, 2023, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.
He was born March 18, 1937, at Minot, North Dakota, the son of George J. and Pearl Irene (Person) McCulloch. As a young boy he attended school in Berthold, North Dakota, graduating from Berthold High School in 1955. He later attended vocation school receiving his training in heating and air condition.
On November 11, 1961, he married Carol Jean Marie Taylor in Minot, North Dakota. In 1970, the couple moved to Burlington, Colorado. While in Burlington, he began working for John Deere before going to work for Peoples Natural Gas. In 1984, they moved to Meade, Kansas. In 1988 he formed McCulloch Heating and Air Condition, owning and operating until his retirement in 2003. After retirement, he assisted his son working for CMS and the Meade District Hospital Wellness Center for eight years.
He is a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus forth degree, the Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, served as a Meade City Councilman, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Meade; his children, Mike McCulloch and wife Jacque of Meade, Mark McCulloch of Dighton, Kansas, Mitch McCulloch of Scott City, Kansas, Michelle Benear and husband Darwin of Meade, Greg McCulloch of Meade, and Nikki Gokey and husband Ray of Meade; two brothers, James George McCulloch of Almont, North Dakota, and his twin brother William John McCulloch of Gault, California; a sister, Pearl Irene (Polly) Van Beek of Austin, Texas; twenty-two grandchildren; and thirty-two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Christopher Benear.
Vigil services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Meade. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the church. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Cremation will follow the services with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Meade, at a later date.
The family would welcome memorials to the Kansans for Life, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the Lone Tree Retirement Center in care of the funeral home.
