Richard V. “Dick” Brookshire

Richard V. “Dick” Brookshire, age 79, of Ulysses, Kansas died Monday, August 06, 2012 at his home in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born May 19, 1933 in Hymer, Kansas, the son of Verlyn and Ruth (Paulsen) Brookshire.

Dick family lived at the Cities Service Plant and he graduated from Satanta High School in Satanta, Kansas. He married Emma (Patton) on June 6, 1954 in Ulysses, Kansas. He began working for Standard Gas in 1955 as a plant operator and retired as a pumper for Standard Oil in 1983. Dick was known as “Mr. Fix It”. Besides fixing everything, he enjoyed saltwater fishing, spending time on the coast and RVing for six months of the year.

He is survived by his wife, Emma of the home; son, Ronnie Brookshire and wife Nancy of Woodward, Oklahoma; daughters, Debbie Rundell and husband Lyle of Wichita, Kansas, Becky Neufeld of Ulysses, Kansas; brothers, Donnie Brookshire of Dallas, Texas, Larry Brookshire of Hoxie, Kansas, Terry Brookshire of Pampa, Texas; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one on the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce McNeeley; and brother, Jerry Brookshire.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Bill Harrold officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, August 8, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Parkinson Foundation or Donor’s Choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
