Richard Lee Glasscock, age 81, of Johnson, Kansas died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born September 15, 1929 in Sulpher Springs, Arkansas, the son of Virgil and Florence (Huff) Glasscock.
After serving in the United States Army from 1951 – 1953 in Korea, Richard moved to Johnson. He married Doris Nichols on January 23, 1954 in Clayton, New Mexico. They owned the Restwell Motel for 51 years. Richard farmed for Winger and Floyd Farms. He also was the custodian at the Stanton County Hospital. He enjoyed being a Little League coach, woodworking, gardening, and loved to watch the squirrels. Richard’s greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of the home; son, Richard R. and wife Bev of Johnson, Kansas; one daughter, Diana Daniels and husband Doug of Johnson, Kansas; special family friend, Ronda Ford of Johnson, Kansas; one brother, Dean Glasscock of Johnson, Kansas; two grandchildren, Dacia Stratman of Garden City, Kansas, Dandi Amerin and husband Marcus of Hugoton, Kansas; and two great grandchildren, Isabel Stratman and Danica Amerin.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, one being his twin; and three sisters.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas with Reverend Don Hasty officiating with Military Rites conducted by VFW Post #3684. Friends may call Friday, May 27, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
