Richard D. “Dick” Kreie, 83 of Ulysses, Kansas passed away Saturday, March 19 2011 at The Legacy at Park View in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born July 22, 1927 in Dodge City , Kansas , the son of Ray Connard and Octavia (Parker) Kreie. Dick was a graduate of Johnson High School , served in the U.S. Marines and attended KU. Dick moved to Ulysses in 1951. He drove truck for Collectia, Bruntzel Oil and Brown Dupree Oil. He later worked for the Ulysses Cemetery . Dick was active in the Ulysses community. He help start the Ulysses little league baseball program in 1962 and served as the district administrator for 27 years. The Dick Kreie Baseball Complex; was named in his honor. Throughout his life, Dick was a baseball coach and umpire; he also loved to fish and golf.
He married Doris Carter on October 20, 1952 in Sand Springs , Oklahoma ; she survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Jeff and wife Sharon of Ulysses, Kansas, Rod and wife Dana of Newton, Kansas, Scott and wife Teresa of Turpin, Oklahoma, Todd and wife Deborah of Ulysses, Kansas; one daughter, Tracy Kreie of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska; one brother, Jack Kreie of Las Cruces, New Mexico; one sister, Karen Fanning of Boston, Massachusetts; one aunt, Faleta Sheppard of Johnson, Kansas; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and faithful companion, Pepper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Memorial service will be held Friday, March 25, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Wayne Flanders officiating, with military rites by Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79. Private inurnment will be held at Ulysses Cemetery . Memorial contributions may be given to DuGood Events or the Ulysses Ministerial Alliance, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses , KS 67880 .
