Richard Dean Stalcup

Richard Dean Stalcup, 85, of Tyrone, Oklahoma passed away September 22, 2019 at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas.
Richard was born May 1, 1934 at his family homestead in Stevens County, Kansas. He was the son of Carl and Lena Wadley Stalcup. The family moved a few years to Tyrone, Oklahoma where he attended school, graduating from Tyrone High School.
He was united in marriage to Cordelia Hook from Baker, Oklahoma on April 16, 1954.
Richard was a lifelong resident of Tyrone where he helped found the Volunteer Fire Department and served as assistant chief and later chief for many years. He also served on the Town Council and was involved in several community improvement projects.
He farmed in Stevens County, Kansas and Texas County for nearly 70 years. He was one of the first to begin crop irrigation in the 1960’s and was a passionate steward of the land.
Richard was a lifelong member of the Tyrone Church of Christ where he served several decades as song leader. Later he also served many years as an elder. Church dinners, ice cream socials, and fish fries were gatherings he really enjoyed.
Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cordelia; his son, Don and wife Linda of Hugoton, Kansas; his daughter, Sheila Cohlmia and husband, Robb of Weatherford, Oklahoma; his sister, Sonya Payne and husband, Charles of Tyrone, Oklahoma; his six grandchildren, Jack Stalcup of McPherson, Kansas, Cory Cohlmia of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Reba Fox and husband, Eric and their son, Hudson of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Audra Terry and children of Parker, Colorado, Phillip Sanders and wife Brittni and family of Springdale, Arkansas, Martin Sanders and wife, Jessica and family of Edmond, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind a host of friends who enjoyed his sense of humor and occasional practical joke. He was devoted to his family and friends, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lena, sister, Donna Shilling and husband Bob and his sister, Shirley Robinson and husband, Pat.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Tyrone Church of Christ. Interment will be in the Tyrone Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma.
