Ray L. Roberts UPDATE

Ray L. Roberts, 89 of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas.
Ray was born June 14, 1925 in Camp, Oklahoma, the son of Norman Leroy and Francis Louisa Randolph Roberts. He attended numerous rural schools one of which was North Victory. He and his family moved to Hooker in 1938 where he attended the 8th Grade and High School graduating with the class of 1944. Due to WWII, his brother Dale walked to receive his diploma with the class of 1945. During the war, he served in the US Navy attached to the G7 Hospital Corp in the South Pacific Admiralty Islands. Ray served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946.
Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Hooker and then went on to college at Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tennessee where he graduated at the top of his class with honors. After graduation he married his high school sweetheart Frances Jean Mahnken on December 13, 1949 in Old Hickory Tennessee. They then returned to make Hooker their home.
In 1949, Ray and his brother Dale founded Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker. They also served the area with ambulance service for thirty-five year. Ray sold his interest to his brother in 1980 and then became the Public Relations Manager of Tri-County Electric in which after 10 years he retired.
Ray was a member of the Church of Christ in Hooker and was a deacon; he was past president of the Hooker Lions Club; was a licensed pilot and helped form the local barbershop chapter in the area. He was the baritone of the Blue Notes Quartet and the Hap Hazards Quartet in which they entertained around the local area for years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Dee Roberts and Dale Roberts along with his granddaughter, Haley Ann Roberts: a brother-in-law, Jim Witt and sister-in-law, Helen Roberts.
Survivors include his wife Fran of the home; two sons, Gane Roberts and his wife Kris of Gunter, Texas and Kyle Roberts and his wife Terri of Hooker, Oklahoma; one daughter, Tylee Pointer and her husband Richie of North Richland Hills, Texas; two sisters Wanda Gantt of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Nelda Witt of Flagler, Colorado; six grandchildren, Chase Windsor, Anne Roberts, Andy Roberts, Sarah Roberts, Chad Windsor and Katie Roberts.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Church of Christ in Hooker, Oklahoma with Monty Daffern officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma.
