Ralph Davis Hampton

Ralph Davis Hampton, age 82, lost a long battle with congestive heart failure on the morning of July 4, 2017, at his home in Beaver, Oklahoma. He was born on July 20, 1934, at his parent’s home in Grant County, Kansas, near Ulysses. At the age of 21, he married Betty Lou Castor of Ulysses, Kansas, on January 10, 1955, in Lovington, New Mexico.

Ralph moved his young family from Ulysses, Kansas, to Guymon, Oklahoma, in 1964 while working for Dowell. He spent most of his life working in and around the oilfield as a truck driver and backhoe operator and ended up retiring from Texas County, Oklahoma, as a backhoe operator. Ralph moved to Beaver, Oklahoma, in 2014. Ralph loved to fish even when the fish weren’t biting.

He is survived by three children, Michael Hampton and wife Sharon “Ronne” of Beaver, Oklahoma, Sue Ellard and husband Harry of Stuttgart, Arkansas, and Becky Robinson and husband Tracy of Tyrone, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Evlon Gindlesberger of Ulysses, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Ralph is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou “Castor” Hampton in August of 2014; his father and mother, Willie Riley and Vallie Annah “Ballard” Hampton; four brothers, Ray Lavon Hampton, JD Hampton, Hubert Perry Hampton, William Lloyd Hampton; and two sisters, Mildred Lee Bullard and Clara Ruth Turner.

Graveside service will be Monday, July 10, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating.
