Raquel S. (Rachel) Lopez, age 78, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born June 19, 1940, in Munday, Texas, the daughter of Rodrigo and Angela (Acosta) Sanchez.
As a young child, Rachel was a migrant worker. She married Domingo V. Lopez on November 8, 1958. Rachel was a CNA at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital, and was a teacher for Kansas Children’s Service League. She recently had been volunteering at Adult Learning Center in Ulysses. Rachel was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista. She was an advocate for kids and adults alike. Rachel was an interpreter and taught ESL; and served on the local daycare board. Her passion was mission work in Mexico and other countries.
Rachel is survived by her daughters, Carmen Orosco and husband Danny, Grace Chavez and husband Simon all of Ulysses, Amanda Sierra and husband Steve of Johnson, and Stephanie Barrios and husband Jesus of Ulysses; sister, Julia Lopez of Abilene, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Rachel is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Domingo; daughter, Denise Gonzalez; four brothers, and six sisters.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 12 2019, at 2:00 PM at Primera Iglesia Bautista in Ulysses with Pastor Gustavo Perez officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 11, 2019, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and services at 7:00 PM all at Primera Iglesia Bautista.
