Preston Alan Nichols, 65, of Liberal, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.
He was born on January 28, 1957 to James “Ed” and Bernetta (Custer) Nichols at Liberal, KS.
Preston was a graduate of Liberal High School; class of 1975. He worked as a Case Hole Engineer for Halliburton for many years then with Pioneer Energy Services until his retirement in 2019. When he was a boy as young as four years old, Preston was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing tractors and combines. In his younger years he also enjoyed playing football; playing at Idaho State University and Hutchison Junior College, working harvest on his grandparent’s farm near Menlo, KS, bird hunting with his good friend Mike Wakefield. Preston also loved cars and could identify every make & model from when he was an early age. Preston also enjoyed fishing, bowling, talking history & politics. He also loved the holidays; whether it was Thanksgiving, Christmas, shooting fireworks on the fourth of July and scaring the trick-or-treater’s on Halloween! He was also a lifetime KU Jayhwawk’s fan. One of Preston’s favorite things was to tell his friends and family to “grow up”!
Preston is survived by Two Daughters, Tesk Bentley and husband Greg of Elkhart, KS, Alek Ferguson and husband Taylor of Taloga, OK; Mother, Bernetta Nichols of Liberal, KS; Sister, Joyce Begley of Liberal, KS; Grandson, Winston Ferguson and Granddaughter, Briar Bentley; Nephews, Ben Sumner and Michael Begley
He was preceded in death by Father, James Edgar Nichols and Brother In Law, Rafe Begley.
Viewing will be held Thursday, June 9, 2022, 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Miller Mortuary, Liberal, Kansas.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022, 10:00 am at the Miller Mortuary Chapel, with Jack Cooley, officiating.
Burial will be 3:00 pm at the Menlo Cemetery in Menlo, KS.
