Phyllis Jean Milburn

Phyllis Jean Milburn, age 85, of Ulysses, Kansas died Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born August 30, 1930 at home in Grant County, Kansas, the daughter of George and Clementine (Davis) Hampton.
Phyllis grew up in Grant County and graduated in 1948 from Grant County Rural High School. While in high school, she played basketball, was on the yearbook committee, and was on the National Honor Society. Phyllis married Paul Milburn in July 1970 in Ulysses. She worked as a Teller and Assistant Vice President of Operations at the Grant County Bank for 45 years. Phyllis and Paul were on a bowling league, enjoyed going to casinos, and drove many miles to watch their grandkids sport and school activities. She also enjoyed watching sports on television and was an avid KU Basketball fan. Phyllis was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; daughters, Pam Walker of Kansas City, Missouri, and Beverly Milburn of Ulysses, Kansas; six grandchildren, Clint Lee and wife Shanan, Melodie Weis and husband Zak, Tyra Olson, Skyler Burton and husband Will, Tanner Faulkner and wife Shelly, and Ashlee Franklin and husband Justin; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Kelly Johnson; and siblings, Dallas Hampton, Robert Hampton, Charlie Hampton, Merle Hampton, Floyd Hampton, Combs Hampton, Mattie Highlander, Ila Hoyle, Lena Howard, Lizzie LaFever, and Lousetta Bullock.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Todd Guinn officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. There will be no public calling hours. Memorial contributions may be given to the Grant County Scholarship Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
