Phillip Charles Light, 79, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at Homestead Estates in Liberal, Kansas.

He was born on May 10, 1944, in Liberal, Kansas, the son of Charles Moses and Josephine (Dunlap) Light, Jr. Phillip graduated from Liberal High School, and then went on to attend Kansas State University.
On February 1, 1962, he married Margaret Ann “Maggie” Jackson in Liberal, Kansas. She survives. He was a very proud father of two children, Jeff and Charla.

Phillip was known for his kind and quite nature. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone. Phillip was a very gentle soul but could express a look of disapproval. He was always the first to help when he saw the need. Phillip had the vision to start a bank for the people of Liberal and surrounding area and was very proud to start the Community Bank.

Phillip loved his horses, cattle, farming, and ranching. He was a devoted K-State fan and was a strong alumnus. He enjoyed his gadgets very much and anything new would always intrigue him. Phillip was a kind man with a big heart who will be sorely missed by his family and all that knew him.

He is survived by;
His wife, Maggie Light, of Turpin, Oklahoma
daughter, Charla Light-Sallaska and husband Gary of Liberal, Kansas, and
son, Jeffrey Light of Georgia,
Grandchildren, Chandra Sowers and her husband, Daniel Sowers
Jeremy Smid, and his wife, Kayla Smid
Jennifer Light- Scully, and her husband, Patrick Scully
Nicholas Light and his wife, Tawny Light
Gabriel Light and his wife, Heather Light.
Thirteen great grandchildren, and
Numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Josephine Light, Jr. and his sister, Diana Burt.

Visitation will be 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM, on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM, on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the First Southern Baptist Church, 621 N. Western, Liberal, Kansas. Presided by Pastor Mark Cress and Pastor David Bagwell.

A private family burial will take place.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association in care of the Hornung Family Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
