Pete D. Bartel

Pete D. Bartel, age 85, passed away early Monday morning, February 13, 2023, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.

He was born January 9, 1938, at Meade, Kansas, the son of Peter B. and Sarah (Doerksen) Bartel. As a young boy he attended the McNaughlty Country School in rural Meade County, Kansas. After his education, he began his career as an automotive mechanic, working for Isaac Chevrolet for twenty years. He later began working for Meade USD 226 in 1983 and was the Director of Transportation at his retirement.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of Meade. He enjoyed restoring antique toys and building miniature farm equipment, in particular combines.

On June 13, 1958, he married Janet Louise Isaac at Meade. She precedes him in death on June 18, 2015.

He is survived by two sons, Myron Bartel and wife Kelly of Pratt, Kansas, and Gordon Bartel of Meade; two daughters, Cindy Friesen and husband Mike of Meade and Vonda Ronen and husband Jack of Wichita, Kansas; a brother Henry Bartel of Manitoba, Canada; twelve grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, Bernhard (Ben) Bartel and Menno Bartel; and two sisters, Lena Friesen and Marie Plett.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2023, at the Church of the Nazarene, Meade. In accordance to his request, cremation has taken place.

The family would welcome memorials to the Church of the Nazarene in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
