Paul Kent Gover

Paul Kent Gover, 82, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2022 at Brookdale Senior Living, Liberal, KS. He was born in Pratt, KS on June 29, 1939 to Paul and Florence (Helsel) Gover.

Kent worked at the Pratt Tribune where he ran a linotype machine, Southwest Daily Times laying out pages of the paper and running the press, and at Southern Office Supply in the Print Shop. He loved going to garage sales and auctions, fishing, refinishing antique furniture, and collecting antiques; in particular old toys and Coca-Cola memorabilia. One of his proudest accomplishments was rebuilding his 1956 Chevy car and 1954 Chevy pickup. Kent loved his family and did everything he could to care for them. As a dedicated husband and father, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their many events.

Kent married Ann Cassel and to this union four children were born. He then married Shirley Mae (Finfrock) Pratt on May 27, 1978.

Kent is survived by his daughter Lynn Volden and husband Stan (Liberal, KS), son Troy Gover and wife Kathy (Monument, CO), son Bradley Gover and wife Carleen (Hutchinson, KS), stepson Corlin Pratt (Nixa, MO), stepson Darren Pratt and wife Shannon (Nixa, MO), and stepson Shan Pratt and wife Cheri (Ozark, MO). He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Terrance Volden, Krista Holcomb and husband Bill, Blake Gover and wife Lauren, Preston Gover, Elise Gover, Katie Jo Gould, Brandon Gover; seven step grandchildren; Taylor Pratt, Calder Pratt, Rance Pratt, Tristen Drollinger, Dustin Pratt, and Skylar Pratt; and 16 great grandchildren.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley Gover, son Gregory Gover, and step granddaughter Chanelle Pratt.

Kent’s family extends a special “Thank you” to the staff at Brookdale for the loving care they gave Kent in his final years.

A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 22nd from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln Ave., Liberal, KS.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 23rd at the Trinity Faith Church, 2264 S. Kansas Ave., Liberal, KS. Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt, KS at 3:30 pm.
