Paul Brown, 88, died March 3, 2019 in Garden City. He was born on November 8, 1930 in Ponca City, Oklahoma the son of Tom and Melva (Carter) Brown.

As a young child, Paul moved to Kansas with his family.  He graduated from Stafford High School in 1948.  On August 21, 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Meyer.  They celebrated 68 1/2 years of marriage until Evelyn’s death on January 22, 2018.  Paul attended college at Lindsborg and Hutchinson.

In 1950, Paul and Evelyn moved to Montezuma where they started their farming endeavor.  In 1951, they began a family, raising two sons and two daughters.  In 1958, the family moved north of Satanta where Paul continued to farm and raise cattle. In 1964, the family made the move to Sublette

When Paul and Evelyn retired from Cattle Empire, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their RV.  They spent 11 winters in Indio, California.  Paul enjoyed hunting and woodworking.  Paul had a passion for flying and in 1957, he obtained a private pilot’s license.  He often flew the family for vacations as well as flying for business.  Family trips to the lake were also a favorite time.

In 2016, Paul was inducted into the Cattle Feeders Hall of Fame for his distinguished service to the cattle feeding industry.  Paul was also instrumental in the construction and ownership of several other businesses in the area including, Santa Fe Trail Dairy, Sublette Fertilizer, Alfalfa Inc., and High Plains Feed.

Paul is survived by four children, Pamela Kells and husband Darcy, Dee Ann Brown, Rex Brown and wife Rhonda, and Roy Brown and Laura; one sister, Marva Sue Walker of Astor Florida; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; and a brother, Don Brown.

Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Tuesday March 5, 2019 from noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5-7 PM. A private funeral service will be held at a later time with immediate family and he will be laid to rest next to Evelyn at the Haskell County Cemetery in Sublette.  Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice-602 N 6th Street-Garden City, Kansas 67846 or in care of the funeral home.
