Patricia E. “Pat” Carter, age 71, of Ulysses, Kansas died Sunday, December 16, 2012 at her home in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born July 31, 1941 in Lakin, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Lana May (Smith) Bless.
Pat grew up in Lakin. She lived in Liberal for 30 years, Hugoton for 7 years and then moved to Ulysses 12 years ago. Pat married Willis Carter on July 8, 1956 in Dalhart, Texas. She was the bookkeeper and helped with Willie’s Country Meats and later with Willie’s & Roger’s Kuntry Kookin’ and Catering. Pat was a member of the Elks Club, Pheasants Forever and the First Baptist Church in Ulysses.
She is survived by her husband, Willie, of the home; daughters, Debra Fetterolf and husband Joe of Ulysses, Kansas, Sherrie Bryan and husband De of Liberal, Kansas, Betty McNeel and husband John of Liberal, Kansas, Lori Wolford and husband John of Satanta, Kansas; brothers, Larry Bless and wife Donna of Visalia, California, James Bless and wife Linda of Lakin, Kansas; sister, Phyllis Wilson and husband Donnie of Hoyt, Kansas; six grandchildren, Jason and Beth Fetterolf of Ulysses, Kansas, Jaime and Michael Callaway of Denton, Texas, Chasity Bush of Hennessey, Oklahoma, David Cole of Ulysses, Kansas, Amy Bridenstine and husband Keith of Liberal, Kansas, Heather Jones and husband Eddie of Mustang, Oklahoma; nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Ralph, Delbert, Dallas, and Denny.
Memorial service will be held Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Pastor Steve Swann Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Friends may call Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
