Patricia Mae Ferguson, 84, of rural Elkhart , Kansas passed from this life on Saturday, September 17, 2011 in Amarillo , Texas .

Patty was born on May 24, 1927 to Leo and Melvia (Peak) O’Toole in Norton , Kansas . She was the first child and only daughter of Leo and Melvia. She moved to the Feterita area as a child and then later moved to Elkhart where she graduated from Elkhart High School in 1945. She attended Brown Mackie Business College in Hutchinson , Kansas after high school.

Her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, George A Ferguson, became her husband on May 5, 1946. They celebrated 65 years of marriage this past May.

Patty was very involved with her family and the community. She loved her flowers, cooking, sewing and caring for her family and others. She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed having all her family home for the holidays. Patty was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and taught Bible classes for many years. She was a member of the Gloomchasers Home Extension Club for many years. In recent years, she was a member of the Coterie Club and also helped organize many of the Elkhart alumni reunions.

Patty is survived by her loving husband, George and their six children, Roger and Linda Ferguson of Pueblo, Colorado; Carol and Tom Lee of Forgan, Oklahoma; Beverley Lee of Sterling, Colorado; Gillette and Tammy Ferguson of Vernal, Utah; Stephen and Tammy Batten of St. John, Kansas and Roscoe and Teresa Ferguson of Hooker, Oklahoma. Patty is also survived by nine grandsons, nine granddaughters, and three great grandchildren.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Melvia O’Toole; and her three brothers, Melvin, Warren and Terry O’Toole.

Funeral service for Patty will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Church of Christ in Elkhart , Kansas . Burial will follow in the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart , Kansas . Friends may call Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart , Kansas . The family request memorials are given to Black Mesa Bible Camp, Boise City , Oklahoma , the Elkhart Church of Christ or a charity of your choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854 , Elkhart , KS 67950 .
