Norman Gene Weaver

Norman Gene Weaver, a beloved member of the Hugoton community, passed on January 4, 2024, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton, Kansas. He was born on September 13, 1932, in Hoxie, Kansas, to Howard Jay Weaver and Edith (Simon) Weaver.

Norman led an accomplished and fulfilling life. He started education in grade school in San Bernardino, California and graduated from McDonald High School in Kansas. He attended Brown Mackie Business College in Salina, Kansas. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was proud to have received the Parachute Badge, National Defense Service Metal, and Good Conduct Medal for his dedicated service. Norman’s commitment to his country exemplified his strong sense of duty and patriotism.

Throughout his career, Norman held various positions of responsibility. He worked as a store manager in several Duckwall stores across Kansas, Colorado, and Texas. He then became a foreman for Panhandle Eastern Gas Company before transitioning to become the manager for Bultman Hardware Store and Bultman Tire in Hugoton. His dedication and hard work have left a lasting legacy in the business community.

Apart from his professional endeavors, Norman actively participated in local organizations. He was a past member of the Hugoton Lions Club and served as President of the Hugoton Area Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Norman took great joy in being involved with Little League Baseball, where he made cherished memories with countless children.

Norman was a member of Hugoton United Methodist Church, Hugoton, Kansas. He gave his life to Christ in highschool.

A loving family man at heart, Norman adored and cherished his family above all else. He shared a beautiful journey of love and companionship with his wife Doris Weaver since their marriage on June 22, 1952, in McDonald, Kansas. Together they built a solid foundation of love that endured throughout their years together.

Norman’s presence will be deeply missed by his surviving family members: his wife Doris Weaver; two sons Kenneth Weaver from Meriden, Kansas; Phillip Weaver and wife Lynda from Topeka, Kansas; two daughters Judy Moody and husband Rick from Lakin, Kansas; Sheila Dees and husband Terry from Hugoton, Kansas. Norman is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and his sister Lois Morelock from McDonald, Kansas.

Norman’s genuine love for his family extended beyond his immediate relatives to include his parents Howard Jay Weaver and Edith (Simon) Weaver, as well as his brother Dean Weaver. Though they have now passed on, their memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew them.

In his free time, Norman could be found indulging in various hobbies and interests. He had a passion for watching sports, particularly NASCAR racing. Auto mechanics fascinated him, and he dedicated time to exploring that field. Photography was a passion that he pursued not only to record family events but also shared his talents photographing weddings, reunions, and various sporting activities. They travel to all forty-eight states as well as Mexico and Canada. Building a family home with Doris stands as a testament to their bond and shared commitment to creating a warm and loving environment for their children.

Friends and loved ones are invited to honor Norman Gene Weaver’s life at the Robson Funeral Home in Hugoton on January 7, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Monday, January 8, 2024 from 11 AM to 6 PM.

A Funeral Service will take place on January 9, 2024, at the Hugoton Methodist Church. The service will begin at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Wes Young and Pastor David Eckert presiding. Following the Funeral Service, a burial ceremony will be held at the Hugoton Cemetery.

Norman Gene Weaver was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of those around him with kindness and generosity. His memory will forever remain in our hearts as we continue to celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.
