Norma L. Nail

Norma L. Nail, age 79, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 23, 2021, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.

She was born November 11, 1941, at Stratford, Texas, the daughter of Henry and Eva (Drake) Bachman.  As a young girl she attended school in Stratford, graduating from Stratford High School in 1960.

In 1958, she married Carl E. O’Quinn.  After several years of marriage, the couple divorced.  On November 4, 1978, she married Carl Lynn in Guymon, Oklahoma.  After their marriage, they made their home in Plains until his passing in 1993.  She then began working for the JC Penny Company in Liberal for several years before transferring to the Dodge City store, retiring in 2001.  In January, 2001, she married Mike Nail in Dodge City.  After their marriage, they made their home in Dodge City until moving to Meade, Kansas, in 2007.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the LWML, the Altar Guild, the Beam Senior Center, the Red Hat Society, and was an active organizer of the local blood drives.  She enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, donating her time, family genealogy, square dancing, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Mike of the home; her children, Starla Beth Torbert and husbandKent of Stinett, Texas, Paula Rhea Kern and husband Darrel of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Robert Dean O’Quinn of Benbrook, Texas, and Karla Kay Escamillia and husband Lloyd of Kingwood, Texas; stepchildren, John Michael Nail and James Anthony Nail, both of Parker, Colorado, Jerry Grady and wife Kenda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Larry Grady and wife Carolyn of Jetmore, Kansas, and Rose Keith and husband Brain of Dodge City, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Carl Lynn; her parents, Henry and Eva Bachman; four brothers, Melvin, Robert, Alvin, and Richard Bachman; and three sisters, Vida Warner, Ida Gaylord, and Dorothy Boryk.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church, Meade.  Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery, Plains, Kansas.

The family would welcome memorials to St. John Lutheran Church in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
