Norma Jean Huling

Norma Jean (Glover) Huling,91, of Turpin, Oklahoma, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered into the arms of her Savior Jesus, after a brief illness, on May 18,2020 at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal, Kansas.

Norma Jean was born on July 27, 1928 in Beaver County, the daughter of John Herbert and Mary (Marie) Melissa (Dotts)Glover. She had one sister, Dorothy. Norma Jean resided on their farm in Beaver County until her passing.

Norma Jean graduated from Greenough High School in 1947. She married Carl Marvin Huling on September 28, 1947 and were married 67 years before his passing in 2015. She was a hard-working woman and wore many hats on the farm: wife, mother, housekeeper, cook, tractor & truck driver, sewing for the family and many more. Norma Jean taught her daughters to sew and she herself made a quilt for each grandchild and one for almost every great- grandchild. She selflessly cared for her husband Carl during his 6-year illness in their home and sat with him in the nursing home for a year before his death. Norma Jean was very committed to her church, Bethel Church of God, where she played the piano for almost 76 years and she dearly loved the congregation there. She had a deep faith in God and served others as a reflection of that faith. Norma Jean so enjoyed attending Turpin Senior Citizens events and playing cards with her special card group in Liberal, KS. She often visited her childhood friends when ill or in the nursing home. Norma Jean was a deeply passionate OKC Thunder fan, always watching the games, regardless of how late (unless it was Sunday night church!). She also enjoyed wearing her “Thunderwear” and attending a few games in person each year in Oklahoma City. She always had strong opinions about the coaches, referees, and team player trades! Norma Jean took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and made every effort to attend their games and programs. She maintained her life-long love and interest in the farming operations as her son Max farmed her land. She did not think of herself as a good cook, but her family will really miss her chicken & noodles, German chocolate cake, and her numerous pies. When she was still able, she loved mowing her yard and doing jigsaw puzzles. Norma Jean and Carl spent almost 46 years camping and fishing in several states including Zapata, TX. During those years they made many memories with their wonderful fishing buddies, and also taking their grandkids camping and skiing.

Norma Jean was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her sisters, her parents and her honorary brother in law, Otis Desper.

Norma Jean is survived by her three children: Sandra and (Jim) Crawford of Edmond, OK, Max and (Sally) Huling of Turpin, OK, and Susan and (Brad) Peters of Turpin, OK. She is survived by fourteen grandchildren and their spouses: Jared and (Shree) Crawford, Joel and (Stefani)Crawford and Jill and (Kevin) Larson, Amber and (Wes) Kirton, Cris and(Natalie) Huling, Randi and (Jason) Jones, Summer and (Stone) Stafford, Makayla Thacker Brant Day and (Trevor Muret), Reed and (Melissa) Day, Abby and (Matt) Peters, John and (Ashley) Peters, Mark and Jamie) Peters, including 28 great-grandchildren. Norma Jean is also survived by honorary sister: Perthana Desper and family, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of church, camping and community friends. The family offers sincere thanks to her special caregivers over the past six months: Ashlee Swartz, Calli Jones, Cassidy Velasquez and Rosetta Serrano.

Services for Norma Jean Huling will be held Thursday May 21, 2020 at 11 am at the Bethel Church of God near Turpin, Oklahoma with Rev. Stanley Lehnert officiating. A public viewing will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Bethel Church of God of Turpin, Oklahoma.

Viewing will be within church sanctuary and service will be held outside of the church. If you are unable to stand during the service, please bring a lawn chair. Masks are welcome and COVID-19 guidelines for our local counties, for distancing will be observed to protect those who have health risks. The service will be shown live on Facebook (Ashley Lehnert).

Interment and graveside service will follow for family only at the Turpin Mennonite Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Hooker, Oklahoma and
