Nina May (Bullock) Sipes, or “Cookie” as she was known to her husband, was born December 23, 1955, to Doris Jean Bolinger Kenville and Kenneth Marlyn Bullock, and died December 11, 2020. She was a loving wife to Ronald Lee Sipes and stepmother to Summer Sipes and Dallas Sipes Chapman for 39 years.
Nina went out of her way to help people whenever possible and was always generous with her time. She rescued people from odd circumstances frequently – to the woman stuck in a bracelet at a kiosk in the airport to women in unsafe circumstances that needed an escape. She was also an advocate for children and their education. She was a loyal and staunch friend to many, always ready to lend a helping hand. She had a tendency to call people out on their hypocrisy whenever possible, but always in a humorous way. She could be quiet, spending much time reading, but there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t tackle, be it home maintenance projects, construction, or starting a business. She loved to sing and create art, either at the sewing machine or painting china and was usually laughing at the foibles of her fellow humans.
At the time of her death, she was the Regent of the Byrd Prewitt Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, associate member of the John Bell Chapter of the DAR in Madison, WI, and a member of the Eastern Star. She authored two published works, one on how to teach people to read and write, and a fictional title called The Proving Zone and several other titles in the works.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Sipes of Manter, KS; step-daughter Summer Sipes of Bermuda; step-daughter Dallas Sipes Chapman, son-in-law Kenneth Chapman, and grand-daughter London Chapman all of Poynette, WI; sister Leonia Tallant and nephew Connan Tallant of Garden City, KS; brother Mark Bullock and sister-in-law Mary Bullock of Thornton, CO; nephew Matthew Bullock and family of Thornton, CO; brother and sister-in-law Bob and Kaye Sipes of Johnson, KS; niece Karla Norstrom and family of Battle Creek, MI; nephew Jim Sipes and family of Manter, KS; and a great many friends both in Southwestern Kansas and around the country. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Her passing leaves a gaping hole in our lives and, while we weep at her passing, it is certain she would prefer we fill the breach with laughter and remember her with the love she gave. She will not be forgotten.
Graveside service will be 1:00 PM (MST) on Friday, December 18, 2020, at Minneapolis Cemetery in Baca County, Colorado, with Steve Doner officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the Stanton County Library in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, KS 67855. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
