Nancy K. Ochoa, age 66, passed away Friday, March 6, 2020, at Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born January 11, 1954, in Las Animas, Colorado, the daughter of JD Raymond and Victoria (Navarez) Mosby.
Nancy grew up in Las Animas, Colorado. She attended Seward County Community College and earned her Bachelor of Elementary Education Degree from Panhandle State University. She married Jimmie Ochoa on January 5, 1970, in Las Animas, Colorado. They have lived in Ulysses since December of 1970. Nancy taught grade school in Ulysses for 30 years, where Pat Traster was her teaching mentor. Nancy was a very strong lady, loved working in her yard, was a member of Alpha Beta Gamma Sorority, and collected purses. Nancy loved her kids and grandkids and wanted them to follow their passions in life. Nancy’s passion was to help others through the gift of organ and tissue donation.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Jimmie Ochoa of the home; sons, Jimmie Ochoa, Jr. and wife, Heather, of Newton, and JD Erik Ochoa of Ulysses; daughter Tamara L. DelaCruz of Garden City, Kansas; mother, Victoria Mosby of Las Animas, Colorado; brothers, Louis Fernandez of Fowler, Colorado, Thomas Fernandez and John Fernandez of Pier, South Dakota; five grandchildren, Britney Gomez, Jaiden Ochoa, Jerik Ochoa, Exodus Ochoa, and Mya DelaCruz; and three great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Zaidyn, and Zavier.
Nancy is preceded in death by her father; sister, Molly Sisneros; and brother, Raymond Mosby.
A celebration of her life will be Friday, March 13, 2020, at 10:00 AM at Celebration Baptist Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Pastor Jon Becker officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Colorado. Memorial contributions may be given to the Nancy Ochoa Scholarship Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, Kansas 67880.
