Nadine K. Howard

Nadine K. Howard, age 94, of Ulysses, Kansas died Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born April 21, 1918 in Sharon, Kansas, the daughter of H. K. and Cora (Ford) Kennedy.

Nadine was born in Barber County and lived in Satanta and Johnson; moving to Ulysses and graduating from Grant County Rural High School in Ulysses in 1936. She then graduated from beauty school in Dodge City. Nadine owned a beauty shop in Ulysses for years while she was the bookkeeper at Webber Supply. On December 9, 1939, she married Therman F. (Bud) Howard in Ulysses, Kansas. She was a member of Country View Baptist Church, Rebekah Lodge, Red Hat Society, Daughters of American Revolution, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son, Gary T. Howard and wife Sandy of Ulysses, Kansas; three grandchildren, Bruce Howard and wife Kelly Rae of Ulysses, Kansas, Jeri Howard and husband David Rodriguez of Ulysses, Kansas, Raina Howard and husband Fred Aranda of Ulysses, Kansas; four great-grandchildren, Tregg, Jordan, Liberty, and Justin; and three step-sisters, Inez Shirley of Liberal, Kansas, Evelyn Martin of Kingwood, Texas, and Vivian Bisel of Toldeo, Ohio.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Therman (Bud) Howard on July 6, 1995, brothers; Jerome Kennedy, Hershal Kennedy; and sisters, Ardine Hills, Agatha Zunker; and twin great-grandchildren, Jessica Lynn and Jordon Lee.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Country View Baptist Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Sam Bynum officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Nadine Howard Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
