Modesto (Mo) Meza, age 78, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the Medical Center of Aurora in Aurora, Colorado. He was born June 15, 1943, in Menard, Texas, the son of Bonifacio and Delores (Lombraña) Meza.
Mo grew up in Menard and moved to Ulysses in 1959. He served in the United States Army from 1965-1967. Mo married Naomi L. Foster on July 27, 1966, in Clayton, New Mexico. He worked for Ansel Cab Company until 1969 when he started working for Amoco. In 1977, he was transferred to Pampa, Texas, until 1991 when he was transferred back to Ulysses and worked with there until 1999. Mo then retired from BP in 2003. He and Naomi enjoyed traveling until 2010 when they settled in Mineral Wells, Texas. Mo moved back to Ulysses in 2018. He liked to read, watch old western movies, and drinking coffee with friends. Mo loved the time he spent playing with all the grandkids. Mo married Betty L. (Oliver) Brent on August 4, 2020, in Ulysses.
Mo is survived by his wife, Betty of the home; three children, Tracy Meza of Mineral Wells, Texas, Larry Meza of Fort Worth, Texas, and Teresa Ochoa of Ulysses, Kansas; step-sons, Kevin Brent and Kenny Brent both of Ulysses; step-daughter, Tamara Bartron of Winfield, West Virginia; brother, Joe Meza of Edmond, Oklahoma; sisters, Lupe Beohler of Ulysses, Vicki Lewis of Conroe, Texas, Linda Zuniga of Borger, Texas, and Sally Carson of Westmoreland, Kansas; five grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Mo is preceded in death by his parents, Bonifacio and Delores Meza; wife, Naomi Meza in 2018; brothers Bill Meza and Manuel Meza; sisters, Clementine Poppe, Debbie Medina, Madeline Hernandez, Janie Meza and Mary Lou Meza.
Funeral service will be held Monday, April 25, 2022, at 10:30 AM at the Country View Baptist Church in Ulysses with Pastor James Berry officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery with military rites conducted by Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79. Visitation will be Sunday, April 24, 2022, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to Dexter D.
