Michael E. Zirger

Michael E. Zirger, age 68, passed away early Thursday, July 21, 2022, at his Plains, Kansas residence.
He was born July 8, 1954, at Dalhart, Texas, the son of Lowell Hugh Zirger and Norma Jean (Shepherd) Zirger-Balay. As a young boy, he attended school in Plains, graduating from Southwestern Heights High School in 1972. Prior to retiring in 2020, he worked for several local farmers, at the Plains Equity, and as a heavy equipment operator for the local township.
He had many hobbies and interests including going on fishing trips, playing darts, watching NASCAR and sports on TV, gardening and spending time with his friends and family and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by three children; Toshni Zirger of Liberal, Kansas, Cody (Ashley) Zirger of Amarillo, Texas, and Emily (Craig) Szafranski of Gilbert, Arizona; three sisters, Darla Tolliver of Plains, Kansas, Mellody (Roger) Morton of Plains, Kansas and Judith (Raymond) Nelson of Colon, Michigan; and five grandchildren, Olivia, Katie, Hannah, Madilyn and Cayden.
He is preceded in death by both parents; a brother, William (Bill) Zirger; and two sisters, Junie Fleshman and Phyllis Zirger.
In accordance with his request, there will be no public viewing, as cremation has taken place. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held and announced at a later date.
