Melvin L. Cook, 75, of Liberal, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at his home.

He was born on May 7, 1943 on the family homestead to Henry and Twila (Black) Cook near Cheney, KS.

On November 23, 1963 he married Sharon Komarek at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Liberal, KS; she survives.

Melvin was a graduate of Cheney High School; class of 1960. He then went on to graduate from Wichita Barber College in 1960.
After completing Barber College he moved to Plains, KS; where he interned at the Barber Shop. He went on to purchase the Barber Shop then later operated it with his wife Sharon as “His and Her’s Barber and Beauty Shop” until 1980. In 1978 he went to work with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. as a Measurement Tech; retiring in November 2016. While in Plains, KS he had served as a past Master Mason at the Plains Masonic Lodge, was a member of the Plains Jaycee’s, a former City Council Member, and a Boy Scout Leader. Melvin enjoyed restoring vintage cars and pickups, riding his motorcycle, was an avid dog lover and loved spending time with his family.

Melvin is also survived by Son, Matt Cook and wife Jill of Mulvane, KS; Two Daughters, Stacey Woods and husband Barry of Meade, KS, Mary Packard and husband Rob of Plains, KS; Brother, Raymond Cook of Midland, TX; Sister, Debbie Avila and husband Robert of Haysville, KS; Sister in Law, Donita Box and husband David of Liberal, KS; 10 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Son, Scott Cook; Brother, Charles Cook; and Sister Beverly Reavis.

There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the Miller Mortuary Chapel with Barry Woods, officiating.
