Melva Jean Kirby, 69, of Amarillo, Texas, a loving wife, friend, and mentor to many passed away March 29, 2023, at Heritage Convalescent Center in Amarillo, Texas.

Melva was born to Melvin and Muriel Rawlins French on August 23, 1953, in Liberal, Kansas. She grew up in Liberal, Kansas and graduated from Liberal High School with the Class of 1972. She received her associate degree in applied science from Seward County Junior College in 1990.

She worked as a manager for the Women’s Shelter in Liberal, Kansas. After retiring she was married to Dale Kirby on January 28, 2011 in Amarillo, Texas.

She was a member of the North Amarillo Church of Christ and VFW Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death are her parents, brother, Dennis French.

Surviving by her husband, Dale Kirby of eleven years of Amarillo, Texas; brothers Ron and Karla French and Stan and Judi French; sisters Loree and Dora. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews as will as many she called family and stepson, Marty Twombly.

Memorials are suggested to Tipton Childrens Home or High Plains Childrens Home and may be left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Ok 73945.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Tyrone Cemetery near Tyrone, Oklahoma with Ron French officiating.
