Mava Dell Brixey, age 87, longtime resident of Hooker OK was born September 14, 1935, at Brooksmith TX. She went to be with our Lord December 1, 2022. Dell was born to Waymon and Della (James) Matthews. Dell had three siblings, two brothers and one sister.
She attended school at Brooksmith TX and graduated High School at Bangs, TX with the class of 1953. The Matthews family worked hard in the fields chopping and picking cotton and maize. At a young age Dell received Jesus attending a brush arbor revival. She was later baptized in the creek near Trickham, TX.
Dell waited tables at a restaurant in Brownwood TX where she met the love of her life Buddy Brixey from Perkins OK. He was there asking directions to find Dell’s brother Delmer Matthews who had invited Buddy to Brownwood for Christmas. Six months later they were united in marriage June 28,1953. After 1 year at Camp Crowder, Missouri they moved to Hooker where Bud Farmed for Paul and Sadie Meisel.
Robert Lewis, Patricia Jane, and Teresa Gay were born while on the farm and spent much time having fun in the snow, camping at Red River, and traveling to Yellowstone and Disney World. Later when the kids were grown Dell and Bud traveled extensively in an RV. Dell attended the Hooker Methodist Church for 68 years.
Dell was preceded in death by her parents, husband Buddy in 2014, son Robert, and brother Delmer. She is survived by her brother Billy Matthews of Georgetown TX, her sister Nina Lee Martin of Brownwood, two daughters Janie Brixey Abilene TX, Teresa and Joe Simpson Hooker OK, eight grandkids, Megan Bridge Lees Summit MO, Jessica Callahan Hooker, Mindy Ramos Miami OK, Mik and Amanda Simpson Guymon OK, Nathan and Sarah Simpson Hooker OK, Brittany Brixey Miami OK, Seth Futral Abilene TX Logan Herren Abilene TX She was blessed with 21 great grans and 3 great greats!
Funeral services will at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the Hooker Wesleyan Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Rev. Jim Reeves officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma.
