Mary (Stalcup) Martz, 104, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.
She was born on February 8, 1912 on a farm 14 miles west of Liberal in Stevens County. The daughter of Ray and Ethel (Chaffin) Stalcup.
Her family moved to Liberal in 1926. She graduated from Liberal High School in 1930. She has been a resident of Liberal since that time. She also attended Kansas State University.
She married Roy Marion Martz on October 9, 1930 in Manhattan, Kansas, he preceded her in death on August 22, 1963.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, having been baptized at the age of 12. She also taught Children’s Classes for many years. In her later years she sometimes taught Wednesday’s Ladies Bible Classes. She worked at the Church of Christ Exhibit at the New Orleans World Fair for four weeks in 1974. She also assisted in starting the Girl Scouts in Liberal. She was a member and past president of the Aurora club, the Liberal Women’s Club, the International Toastmistress Club & J.U.G. Club. She also belonged to the Evergreen Garden Club and was a Hospital Volunteer.
She worked in offices for many years – Liberal Sales Co., Lloyd’s Furniture, The Furniture Mart, and Circle D Appliances.
Mary is survived by one son & wife- Charles Sr. and Cindy Martz of Liberal, KS; Grandchildren- Kathy & Les Faulkner of Oklahoma City, OK; Carol Stickler of Oklahoma City, OK; Peggy & CB Hoshall of Oklahoma City, OK; Doug & Jill Stickler of College Station, TX; Roy & Tracey Martz of Bridgeport, TX; Chuck and Stephanie Martz Bartlesville, OK; Jamie & JR Babst of Colby, KS; Great Grandchildren- Michelle, Kasi, Bobby, Johanna, Conrad, Abby, John, Megan, Meredith, Joshua, Jacob, Charli Ray, Emma, Lilly and Kaleb; 25 Great-Great Grandchildren and many Nieces & Nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her Husband-Roy Martz; daughter- Patricia Stickler and son-in-law- Harry Stickler; Grandson Mike Stickler; and Great Granddaughters Lenora and Nichole; her parents; 2 Brothers; 2 Sisters
Viewing will be 12:00 Noon to 8:00 PM Monday October 24th and 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Tuesday October 25th at Miller Mortuary.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday October 25th at the Western Ave. Church of Christ with Dalton Key officiating. Burial will follow at the Liberal City Cemetery.
