Martha Sue Black Dickson

Martha Sue Black Dickson, age 86, passed away Friday afternoon, January 20, 2017, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.

She was born March 3, 1930, at Petite, Mississippi, the daughter of Dewey and Mittie Mae (Wroten) Pearce.  As a young girl she attended the Satactia High School, Satactia, Mississippi, graduating in 1948.  After high school she began working as a telephone operator.

On October 23, 1952, she married Robert Dickson at Marks, Mississippi.  Later in 1973, the couple moved to Plains from Woodland Park, Colorado, where they made their home.  Over the years she worked in the restaurant business, owning and operating the Mustang Café from 1973 until 1985.

She enjoyed fishing hunting, shopping, shoes, playing Bingo and dominos, working as a caretaker, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

After her husband Robert passed away, she later married Gene Black in 1985.  He precedes her in death in 1999.

She is survived by:
Three sons,            Shannon Dickson of Plains, Kansas
Rusty Dickson of Buffalo, Wyoming
Bob Dickson of Havana, Illinois

Three daughters,        Donna Swank of Kendall, Kansas
Judy Faulders of Follett, Texas
Joan Stout of Follett, Texas

Two sisters,            Marjorie Hightower of Murray, Kentucky
Wanda Ann Vorhies of Montrose, Colorado

Fifteen grandchildren        Thirty-two great-grandchildren        Two great-great-grandchildren

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dickson; husband, Gene Black; a daughter, Patty Dickson; a brother, Donald Dewey Pearce; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2017, at the United Methodist Church, Plains.  Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Cremation will follow the service with private family inurnment at a later date.

The family would welcome memorials to the Lone Tree Retirement Center in care of the funeral home.
