Martha J. Reimer

Martha J. Reimer, age87, died Sunday, July 10, 2016, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.

She was born December 23, 1928, at Meade, Kansas, the daughter of John E. and Anna (Friesen) Loewen.  As a young girl, she attended school in rural Meade County, graduating from Meade Bible School in 1943.  She later attended Hesston College.  Upon her schooling, she returned to Meade.

On June 1, 1948, she married Daniel E. Reimer at Meade.  Upon their marriage, the couple made their home in Meade.  Martha and Dan farmed and ranched in rural Meade County.  While assisting with the farming activities, she maintained the family home and raising their children.

She is a member of the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Meade, the Ladies Sewing Group, and is a board member of the Et Cetera Shop, Liberal, Kansas.  Over the years she has been an active church member serving in many various capacities.  Martha enjoys cooking, quilting, working in her garden and yard, and singing.  She has been involved in singing groups for over thirty-five years.

She is survived by:

Laura Pearce and husband, Mark of Wichita, Kansas

Sylvia Kuhlmeier and husband, Brett of West Plains, Missouri

Ivan Reimer and wife, Gerri of Meade, Kansas

Carl Reimer and wife, Angie of Meade, Kansas

 

A son-in-law,                                    John Tyson of Independence, Missouri

 

A brother,                                    Menno Loewen of Derby, Kansas

 

A sister,                                    Lydia Gillett and husband, Bob of Lincoln, Nebraska

 

Thirteen grandchildren                                    Five Great-grandchildren

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel E. “Dan” Reimer; parents; a daughter, Velma Tyson; a brother, David Loewen; and a sister-in-law, Elsie Loewen.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2016, at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Meade.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Interment will be at 9:00 a.m. Friday, at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church Cemetery, rural Meade.

 

Memorials are suggested to the Emmanuel Mennonite Church or Great Plains Christian Radio in care of the funeral home.
