Martha Ann (Pittman) Thompson

Martha Ann (Pittman) Thompson, a loving wife, mother, and substitute teacher for over 25+ years, passed away surrounded by her family in Hugoton, Kansas, on June 7th, 2023. She was born on September 20th, 1942, in Liberal, Kansas, to Samuel and Opal Pittman.
She and Joe Henry Thompson were married on December 24, 1966, in rural Seward County, Kansas, at Golden Plains Baptist Church.

Martha’s passion for education led her to earn her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Fort Hay State University, in Hays, Kansas. She dedicated over two decades to teaching as a substitute at Moscow, Hugoton, and Satanta. Martha had a caring and nurturing personality, making her an excellent educator and a devoted mother and wife.

She enjoyed spending quality time with her family. When her children were young, she and her husband, Joe Henry, would take them to Colorado for vacations. Martha was never afraid of hard work on the farm, where she relished being a farmer’s wife and mother of two boys.

Martha was also an active member of the Assembly of God Church in Hugoton. It was one of her proudest accomplishments and brought her joy.

Martha’s interest included, cooking, crocheting, camping, and sewing. She spent countless hours making beautiful doilies and small Afghans for those she loved.

The funeral service for Martha will be held at the Assembly of God Church at 138 S Main Street in Hugoton on June 12th at 2 p.m., followed by burial services at Lone Star Friends Cemetery at 2698 KS-51 in rural Stevens County, Kansas. Pastor Tim Singer will be presiding over the service.

Martha Ann Thompson leaves behind many loved ones, including two sons, Joe D. Thompson and wife Valerie, Jay H. Thompson and wife Michelle, three grandchildren; Jace Thompson and wife Micaela, Jaron Thompson and wife Madison, Vance Thompson and wife Gabrielle; Roger Dale Pittman and wife Paula (brother), four great-grandchildren; Charleigh, Jove, Opal, Marie, and several other relatives and friends.

Martha’s love for education, outgoing personality, strength, and devotion will always be remembered by her loved ones. She made a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Martha Ann Thompson will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
