Mark Allan Horyna, 68 years young, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, Kansas.
He was the son of Ben and Lucille (Williams) Horyna and was born July 8, 1951 in Caldwell, Kansas.
He and Rhea Roberts were married August 20, 1971 in Argonia, Kansas. To this union were three children; Brett, Krystal, and Andrea.
Mark loved to spend time with his wife Rhea, family and friends, garden, golf, and teach his Sunday School Class. He said he never worked a day in his life- he loved teaching so very much.
For 45 years, Mark was a Teacher, Coach, Bus Driver, and a High School Counselor at Moscow USD #209. Mr. Horyna, as he was known to his students, taught three generations and impacted the lives of many. His booming voice, kind eyes, and laughter lit the halls of Moscow High School. He was a friend, a resource, a mentor, a helping hand, and an ear to listen.
Mark graduated from Butler County Community College, Northwestern State University in Alva, and went on to earn his Masters in Counseling from Fort Hays State University. He was a proud School Board Member, a Mason, member of the United Moscow Methodist Church, and a Lion’s Club Member.
He is survived by wife, Rhea Horyna, Moscow, KS.; son, Brett Horyna and wife Holli, Liberal, KS.; daughters, Krystal Parker, Orlando, FL., Andrea Cook and husband Troy, Overland Park, KS.; brothers, Ben Horyna and wife Cheryl, Hutchison, KS., Bob Horyna and wife Brenda, Hutchison, KS.; sister, Jane Schaffer and husband Robert, Louisburg, KS.; grandchildren, Katie, Bree, Giavanna, Ava, Devyn, and Donovan.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial has been established for Moscow United Methodist Church. Memorials may be mailed to Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, Kansas 67951.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 17, 2020, 11 AM to 8 PM, with family receiving friends from 6 PM to 8 PM, Moscow United Methodist Church. The address to Moscow United Methodist Church is 300 Main Street.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 18, 2020, 10 AM, Moscow High School Auditorium, Moscow, Kansas. The address to the school is 301 High School Road. Burial to follow at Moscow Cemetery.
Robson Funeral Home, Hugoton is in charge of arrangements.
