Marilyn F. Black, age 85, of Ulysses, Kansas died Monday, February 6, 2012 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born April 17, 1926 in Garden City, Kansas , the daughter of Altho “Faye” and Freddis Fern (Thomas) Hands.
Marilyn graduated from Garden City High School. She has lived in Ulysses since 1953. She was married to Raymond Hacker for 25 years. She then married Jackson W. Black on July 5, 1975 in Ulysses, Kansas . Marilyn worked at the Grant County Bank and was the owner of High Plains Cleaners in Ulysses. She was the president of the Chamber of Commerce twice, active in American Legion Auxiliary and with cub scouts, and enjoyed traveling. She was one of the earliest members of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
She is survived by sons, Clifford “Butch” Hacker and wife Linda of Emporia, Kansas, Forrest “Frosty” Hacker of Chandler, Oklahoma, Chuck Hacker and wife Evelyn of Ulysses, Kansas; daughter, Mary Ann Grimes and husband Roger of Amarillo, Texas; brother, Ronald Hands of Berryville, Arkansas; sister, Bonnie Hardin of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren, Nick, JR, John, Andrea, and Marcus; two step grandsons, Preston, and Danny; and five great grandchildren.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jackson on December 3, 2000; son, Raymond D. Hacker; brothers, Dale Hands, Donnie Hands; and sisters, Teresa Smith, Pat Cochran, Evelyn Miller, and Barbara Schremmer.
Funeral service will be held Friday, February 10, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Father Dale Lumley officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery . Friends may call Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses with the family present from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM .
